Validation build: the evidence log is live; the pricing example is simulated and places no cover. What that means

For software vendors considering a pilot

A pilot that costs nothing and commits you to nothing

When we ask a vendor whether it would sign a one-page pilot letter, this is what the letter says. It is a letter of intent, not a contract: apart from confidentiality and the right to end the pilot, it creates no obligation, no exclusivity and no fee. Read it here before you answer.

What you do
Integrate the API into a test or limited build of your product, using the published specification and, if you like, the integration kit. Run the conformance suite against your build and keep the result. Name a technical contact, and at the end say in writing what worked, what did not, and whether you intend to ship it.
What we do
Provide the API keys at no charge, a technical contact who answers within one working day, and the changes the pilot shows are needed, where they fit the product’s published rules.
What it costs
Nothing, for either side. No commercial terms are agreed in the letter. If you decide to ship, terms are discussed then, and nothing obliges either side to agree any.
Data
No personal data reaches us: your product sends a salted SHA-256 fingerprint of each record and a short record type; the record, its salt and the customer stay in your product. Entries in the log are permanent by design and cannot be deleted by anyone, including us; you tell the firms taking part. Data protection
Phase 1, from signature
Technical evaluation with sandbox keys only. No live records of real firms.
Phase 2, live use
Starts only when all three hold: your build passes the conformance suite; we hold the authorisation needed to carry on this activity in Belgium; and a specialist legal opinion confirms the activity needs no registration as an insurance intermediary. We tell you in writing when the last two are in hand. It lasts 90 days from then, longer if both sides agree in writing.
Ending it
Either side, at any time, by written notice, without cause and without cost. What was recorded stays recorded and verifiable, and you can export it at any time. Continuity
Success
For the number of firms taking part that the letter names, a record sealed from your product can be proven by that firm, against a signed head of the log, using only the public verifier and without contacting us; and you have said in writing whether you intend to ship.
Names and results
Neither side uses the other’s name in public without written agreement. Your conformance result is yours: you may publish it; we will not, unless you agree.
Freedom
No exclusivity. The specification is published so that anyone may implement it; nothing in the letter stops you doing so yourself, or using any other supplier.
Law
Belgian law; the courts of Brussels, for the few obligations the letter creates.

On request

The letter itself

One page, in English, written first for the software brokers and insurers use; the same terms work for any software vendor serving regulated firms. A Dutch or French version is available. Have your own counsel read it: it is a template, and neither side should sign on the strength of a summary.

Ask for the letter Start without it: a sandbox key, no form

You do not need the letter to try anything. A sandbox key is free, needs no contract, and works today; the letter only records that a pilot is under way, and what each side has said it will do.
